Supply Chain Management Research Institute

  • The Centre plans to offer master, doctoral and post-doctoral programs with support from the International Business College (IBC). The Centre is committed to building a professional academic institution to set up a scientific research platform to attract world-class scholars. Currently, the Centre is working hand in glove with universities and research institutes in China, America, Canada, Singapore, Spain, France and Hong Kong to gain a firm grip of the research development direction.

  • With Professor Cai Gangshu from Santa Clara University as an academic pacesetter, outstanding doctors from overseas combined with International Business College’s international background and business data analysis specialty as technical support, the Centre works hand in glove with the academic circles and business circles at home and abroad to do in-depth research into issues concerning supply chain management, and it is devoted to transforming academic theories into practical knowledge. It not only works on researching the conventional supply chain, including procurement, production, stock, transportation and distribution, in particular international frontier academic issues concerning supply chain management, but focuses on new research fields, such as big data-based supply chain management, green supply chain management, supply-chain finance and Internet finance. Moreover, considering that “theoretical issues should be collected from enterprises, while research achievements should be applied to enterprises”, the Centre pays much attention to catering to industry and enterprise demands.

  • The Supply Chain Management Research Centre at Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (hereinafter referred to as “the Centre”) focuses on the problems involved in supply chain management strategy, supply-chain finance, big supply chain data analysis, innovative supply chain management and supply-side structural reform. The Centre is committed to building Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (DUFE) into a professional academic institution by integrating domestic, foreign, on-campus and off-campus supply chain management talent resources together in order to propel it into a world-leading theoretical research field to make. It is a pioneer in combining theory with practice, and training chain management talents and innovative talents, so that it can offer advice and suggestions on China’s supply-side structural reform and the revitalization of Northeast China.

Distinguished Research Fellows

Xiao Yongbo, an associate professor in the Department of Science and Engineering, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University graduated from Tsinghua University with a bachelor’s degree in management information in 2000, Tsinghua University with a master’s degree in management science and engineering management in 2005, finishing the post-doctoral research project at the Department of Applied Economics, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University in 2008. He joined the Department of Science and Engineering, School of Economics and Management in August 2008, and is a young Cheung Kong scholar (2016), a winner of funds from the National Natural Science Foundation–Outstanding Youth Foundation (2012), and a winner of the Chinese Management Youth Award (2014). His research interests include revenue and pricing management, service system and service management, and supply chain management. He teaches service management, DMD (data, models and decision-making) and operations research. His research papers have been published in some important international journals of operations management such as Production and Operations ManagementNaval Research LogisticsIIE Transactions and Decision Sciences, as well as a number of domestic core academic journals such as System Engineering Theory and Practice and Chinese Journal of Management Science. He has also translated many English writings into Chinese with his partners.

Chen Xiangfeng is a professor at School of Management, Fudan University and associate head of the Department of Management Science. He was elected into the “Program for New Century Excellent Talents funded by the Ministry of Education of China” in 2010. He was graduated from East China Normal University with a bachelor’s degree in 1996 and with a master’s degree in 1999. Then he learned management in Fudan University. After graduation with a doctoral degree, he joined the department of management science in 2003 and worked as a lecturer. Later, he was promoted to an associate professor in 2008 and to a professor in 2015. In addition, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Stern School of Business, New York University during 2006 to 2007, paid a short visit to the School of Business, Kansas State University in 2010 and 2011, and went to MIT Sloan School of Management as a visiting scholar from June to December of the same year. His research interests include the overlap between operations management and supply chain management, and theory and practice of supply chain finance. He has hosted 5 national science fund projects and 3 projects were funded by the Ministry of Education; won the first prize for the national commercial science and technology progress award once, and the third prize for Shanghai science and technology progress award once. His research achievements have been published in the Production and Operations ManagementEuropean Journal of Operational ResearchAnnals of Operations ResearchInternational Journal of Production EconomicJournal of Management Sciences in China and Journal of Systems Engineering.

Zhao Wenhui is an associate professor at the Department of Operations Management, Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He graduated from Tsinghua University with a double bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and computer technology in 1996, from Tsinghua University with a master’s degree in civil engineering (disaster prevention and reduction) in 1999, from Ohio State University with a master’s degree in civil engineering (traffic) in 2002, and from Ohio State University with a doctor’s degree in operations research in 2007. He was a member of the third council of the Stochastic Service and Operations Management Society, Operations Research Society of China, and a software engineer at China Academy of Building Research from 1999 to 2000. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Washington University in St. Louis and was a member of INFORMS from 2007 to 2010. His research interests include supply chain finance, supply chain management, medical service management, game and combinatorial optimization. Most of his research achievements have been published in Management ScienceOperations ResearchMathematical Programming and Production and Operations Management.


Team Members

Cai Gangshu, graduated from Peking University with a bachelor’s degree in physics, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University with a master’s degree, and North Carolina State University with a doctor’s degree in operations and computer science, now is a professor at Santa Clara University, and the overseas president of IBC. Also, he is an expert at Shanghai “Thousand Talents Program”, and a winner of the Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Scholars and Scholars in Hong Kong and Macao Young Scholars (formerly known as “distinguished youth from overseas”). He has published over 30 papers in international top-level and authoritative journals; hosted over 20 scientific research projects supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the National Natural Science Foundation of China; won the outstanding teaching and research award from the Business School at Kansas State University, and received prizes for excellent teaching, excellent research and extraordinary service from Santa Clara University, the highest influence teaching award from Leavey School of Business, the highest influence service award from Leavey School of Business, and the outstanding associate editor award from Decision Sciences. Currently, he works as a senior associate editor at the international top-level journal Production and Operations Management and is an associate editor at the authoritative journal Decision Sciences.

Xu Jianjun, graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a doctor’s degree in operations management, is assistant director of the Supply Chain Management Research Centre (SCMRC), director of the business data analysis staff room and project officer with the title of associate professor. His main research interests include inventory control, optimal production control, optimal price control and optimal strategy for flexible manufacturing resources. His research achievements have been published in internationally renown journals such as the European Journal of Operational ResearchInternational Journal of Production Economics and Naval Research Logistics. His research in the application field involves green supply chain management, sustainable food supply chain, and customer-driven value chain flexibility. He participated in applying for and developing multiple European projects.

Kang Xiaoning, graduated from Virginia Tech University with a doctor’s degree in statistics, and Dalian University of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He is an assistant professor at International Business College, Dongbei University of Finance & Economics. His main research interests include high-dimensional data modeling and analysis, data mining, and statistical inference and Bayesian statistics of semi-parametric model. He participated in research projects funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and National Natural Science Foundation of China. He now is a member of International Chinese Statistical Association.
